The Jangsaengpo Whale Museum will provide more substantial exhibitions and
a variety of experience and learning programs.
Jangsaengpo Whale Museum was established in Jangsaengpo, the advanced base for whaling, as the first whale museum in Korea.
The museum collects, preserves, and displays whaling artifacts since the prohibition of whaling in 1986. The museum will be
a resource for marine tourism by providing space for marine ecology system and education, research, and experience with a variety of information about whales.
The Whale Experience Hall is located in Jangsaengpo Maritime Park, 248 Jangsaengpogorae-ro, Nam-gu, Ulsan. It was established on a total floor area of 1.834㎡ with 3 ground floors in Nov. 2009 for securing the infrastructure to experience marine culture and preserve the traditional culture related to whales. With the first dolphin aquarium in Korea, a sea creature aquarium and ecology exhibition hall, and diorama displaying the lifestyle during the whaling period of the past, the hall allows visitors to appreciate the past, present and future of Jangsaengpo at one glance. In particular, the hall is very popular among children because of its 4D theater, where children can encounter whales in a 3D movie on the second floor, and small animals, including reptiles and birds, on the third floor.
