Ulsan Nam-gu (Mayor Dong-wook Seo) announced that it participated in the MATTA Fair SEP 2025, held at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) in Kuala Lumpur from September 5 to 7, actively promoting tourism marketing to attract overseas visitors.

Targeting local tourism consumers, Nam-gu hosted an English-language presentation highlighting the attractions of the Jangsaengpo Whale Culture District and intensively promoted the upcoming “29th Ulsan Whale Festival” scheduled for September 25?28.

Notably, at this year’s fair, Nam-gu operated an interactive program titled “Jangsaengpo in Watercolors,” where visitors could paint images of the Jangsaengpo Whale-watching Ferry,
Whale Sculpture Park, and Jangsaengpo Whale Culture Village, which drew great interest and participation not only from Malaysians but also from visitors from various countries.

At the exhibition booth, various souvenirs featuring Nam-gu’s mascot “Jangsaengi” were displayed, and tourism brochures were distributed, capturing the attention of many visitors.

First held in 1991, MATTA Fair is Malaysia’s largest international travel fair, with about 180,000 visitors and 1,590 booths in 2024. It is regarded as one of Southeast Asia’s top three consumer tourism fairs, alongside Singapore’s NATAS Holiday and Taiwan’s ITF Taipei.

Meanwhile, in May this year, Nam-gu also distributed press releases promoting the Jangsaengpo Whale Culture District and Hydrangea Festival to media in China, Japan, and Southeast Asia. The story was picked up by 133 outlets including Japan’s Jiji Press,
Indonesia’s Antara News Agency, and the U.S. Travel + Leisure.

Mayor Dong-wook Seo commented, “Through this fair, we were able to directly showcase Jangsaengpo Whale Culture District and the 29th Ulsan Whale Festival to overseas tourists. We will continue to accelerate regional tourism development projects and diversify tourism facilities so that more international visitors can be captivated by Nam-gu’s charm.”
