Subject Nam-gu, Ulsan to conduct surveys on expiration date labeling system
Name Namgu Date 2023.08.30 Hit 90
Nam-gu, Ulsan (Mayor Seo Dong-wook) announced that it will conduct a "survey on the expiration date labeling system" from July 31 to August 18 for 53 food manufacturers and processors in the area.

The survey aims to encourage wide adoption of the expiration date labeling system as the "sell-by" labeling system will be changed to the "use-by" labeling system from this year.

Since it is difficult to change the packaging in time for the effective date after the revision of the "Act on the Labeling and Advertising of Food, etc." (January 1, 2023), and in order to ease the cost burden on manufacturers and prevent waste of resources, a trial period from January 1, 2023, to December 31, 2023, is provided so that existing packaging marked with the "expiration date" can be used without applying any additional labels.

Accordingly, Nam-gu will conduct a survey of food manufacturers and processors in the jurisdiction to promote the expiration date labeling system and encourage them to replace their packaging by the end of the year in order to prevent confusion after the end of the trial period and ensure the early establishment of the expiration date labeling system.

The survey will include ▲ the number of items that have been replaced compared to the number of items subject to expiration date labeling ▲ the number of items scheduled for expiration date replacement in the second half of the year and ▲ the distribution of other expiration date marking notices and promotional materials.

Seo Dong-wook, head of the Nam-gu Office, said, "We will do our best to ensure that the expiration date labeling system is established early so that residents can enjoy safe food through this survey of all food manufacturers and processors."
